Rice Export Ban Update: The Government of India has banned the export of non-basmati rice. This order has come into force with immediate effect. The government has issued an order in this regard. The central government has decided to impose this ban due to the fear of decline in production due to the damage caused to Kharif crops, especially paddy crop, due to delayed monsoon.

According to the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, the Central Government has decided to amend the export policy to ensure adequate availability in the Indian market and to prevent rising prices of non-basmati rice in the domestic market. It has been decided to ban the export of non-basmati rice with immediate effect, freeing it from 20 percent export duty.

The government itself admitted that an increase in the prices of rice is being seen. In the retail market, an increase of 11.5 percent has been seen in the prices of rice in the last one year, while there has been a jump of three percent in one month.

On September 8, 2022, the government had decided to impose 20 percent export duty on the export of non-basmati rice. So that the availability in the domestic market can be increased as well as the prices can be reduced. But even after 20 per cent export duty, non-basmati rice exports saw an increase. This rise has been seen due to the sharp rise in prices in the international market due to the global political situation. El Nino and bad weather in rice producing countries are also among the reasons for the boom. Exports of non-basmati white rice account for 25 per cent of the total rice exports.

The government says that the ban on the export of non-basmati rice will help bring down prices in the country. Although non basmati rice (Par Boiled Rice) And no change has been made in the export policy of basmati rice.
