The Centre has cautioned FM radio channels in opposition to taking part in songs or broadcasting content material glorifying alcohol, medicine, weaponry, and gangster/gun tradition.

In an advisory to FM radio channels, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested them to strictly adhere to the phrases and situations prescribed in grant of permission settlement (GOPA) and migration grant of permission settlement (MGOPA) and never air any content material in violation thereof.

“Any violation shall entail such penal action as deemed fit in accordance with the terms and conditions laid down in the GOPA/MGOPA,” the advisory mentioned.

The advisory was issued after the ministry discovered that some FM channels had been taking part in songs or broadcasting content material that glorified alcohol, medicine, weaponry, gangster and gun tradition.

It identified that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had taken judicial word that such content material affected kids of impressionable age and gave rise to gun tradition.

It mentioned such content material was in violation of the AIR Programme Code and the Centre had the proper to impose sanctions for suspension of permission and prohibition of broadcast.
