The Centre has widened its focus from apart from the foremost stretch of river Ganga to its tributaries for the success of its flagship “Namami Gange” (clean-Ganga” programme).

This focus consists of filtering of move of sewage within the tributaries from habitation centres positioned alongside their banks.

The rationale is that the sewage finally flows into the Ganges. Hence, the drive to wash it’s going to find yourself in proverbial chase of the tail if the tributaries, particularly the main ones are not attended to concurrently.

The Centre has made a push to filter the move of untreated sewage from the vacationer and industrial cities alongside the banks of the Yamuna-the longest tributary of the Ganges.

In this context, the Union Jal Shakti Ministry has sealed a tripartite Concession Agreement involving its National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and M/s Vishvaraj Environment Private Limited (VEPL) for growth of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for Agra below Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The contract has been awarded on the whole price of about  Rs 583 crores.

This is to abate air pollution within the Yamuna via “basin-approach” and the challenge includes development of STPs of whole capability of about 178 MLD.

Developing Interception & Diversion (I&D) buildings, I&D community laying, sewage pumping stations together with Operation and Maintenance for 15 years and many others are cogs of the challenge.

This challenge will likely be carried out below Hybrid Annuity primarily based PPP mannequin and can be sure that operation and upkeep of the STPs are achieved as per stringent efficiency necessities,” stated the NMCG’s Director-General G Asok Kumar.

The different main tributaries of the Ganges embody the Gomti, the Ramganga, and the Ghaghara on which the NMCG has its focus.

Bulk of the sterm of the Ganges move via Uttar Pradesh, and a very good variety of the tributaries course via it.

The Yamuna has Inter-State scope and its well being has main influence on the eco-system of the Ganges.
