Over 18 months after a duo hit a visitors cop with a motorbike after being stopped from using it on a cycle monitor, an area courtroom has convicted one of many accused and acquitted the opposite.

As per the police grievance, two cops posted with the cycle squad had been on visitors consciousness responsibility on the cycle monitor alongside the Sector 32/46 dividing street on September 2, 2021.

There, they noticed two males, Yuvraj and Chirag, using a motorbike on the cycle monitor with out helmets round 5 pm.

When constable Harish Kumar signaled them to cease, the motorbike rider sped up and crashed the two-wheeler into him. The constable fell unconscious and suffered accidents on the mouth and face.

Both the accused had fled in the direction of Sector 46, leaving their motorbike behind. The constable was rushed for therapy to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, for therapy.

A case was registered underneath Sections 307 (try and homicide) and 34 (acts achieved by a number of individuals in furtherance of widespread intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the Sector-34 police station.

The accused, Chirag of Sector 47-D and Yuvraj Singh of Sector 45, had been ultimately arrested.

As per police, Yuvraj was using the motorbike, whereas Chirag was sitting on the pillion seat.

Yuvraj was arrested from Uttarakhand and had two pending legal instances in opposition to him already.

During trial, expenses had been framed underneath Sections 308 (try and commit culpable murder), 109 (abetment), 332 (voluntarily inflicting damage to discourage public servant from his responsibility), 333 (voluntarily inflicting grievous damage to discourage public servant from his responsibility) and 353 (assault or use of legal power to discourage a public servant from discharge of his responsibility) of the IPC.

However, whereas the courtroom held Yuvraj responsible, Chirag was let off.

While a duplicate of the judgment has not been uploaded but, Chirag’s counsel Yadvinder Singh Sadhu mentioned, “The link of the motorcycle recovered from the spot was never established with Chirag. The vehicle was registered to someone else and while the prosecution had claimed that he had given the motorcycle to the two accused, the person instead claimed it was stolen.”

The courtroom will pronounce the quantum of sentence in opposition to Yuvraj on Wednesday.
