The Defence Ministry on Thursday introduced a contemporary checklist of 107 sub-systems and parts that won’t be allowed to import beneath a staggered timeline of six years starting December with a major purpose to advertise indigenisation.

The checklist contains parts required within the manufacturing of helicopters, submarines, warships, tanks, missiles, radars and communication techniques lots of that are at the moment procured from Russia.

Last December, the defence ministry launched an inventory of 2851 sub-systems and parts which can come beneath import embargo beneath a particular timeline.

Some of the parts and sub-systems recognized for import embargo within the contemporary checklist are used for development of indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), digital warfare system, Astra missile, T-90 tanks and infantry fight automobiles.

The checklist launched by the Defence Ministry comprised 22 objects that will probably be taken up for indigenisation by the state-run aerospace main Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) whereas Bharat Electronics Ltd will indigenise 21 sub-systems.

The Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders will take up indigenisation of six parts and subsystems used for development of ships and submarines, Bharat Dynamics Ltd has been entrusted with indigenisation of 4 objects for Astra missiles, whereas BEML Ltd received 12.

Other defence public sector undertakings (DPSU) being concerned within the course of are Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Goa Shipyard Ltd, Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd and Munitions India Limited (MIL).

“In continuous pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing and to minimise imports by DPSUs under ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, Ministry of Defence has approved another list of 107 strategically important Line replacement Units (LRUs)/sub-systems with a timeline beyond which there will be an embargo on their import,” the ministry mentioned.

It mentioned the recognized objects will probably be indigenised and can solely be procured from Indian {industry} after the timelines indicated towards every of them within the checklist.

The ministry mentioned the indigenisation of these things will probably be taken up by the DPSUs beneath the ‘Make’ class.

The ‘Make’ class goals to realize self-reliance by involving better participation of the Indian {industry}.

The DPSUs will provide these recognized LRUs/Sub-systems for industry-led design and growth.

“This will probably be an ideal alternative for the Indian {industry} to get built-in within the provide chains of producing main defence platforms, the defence ministry mentioned in an announcement.

It mentioned the indigenous growth of those LRUs/Sub-systems tasks will bolster the financial system and scale back the import dependence of DPSUs. “In addition, it will help harness the design capabilities of the domestic defence industry and position India as a design leader in these technologies,” the ministry mentioned.

“This list is in continuation to the positive indigenisation list of 2,851 sub-systems/assemblies/sub-assemblies/components which had been earlier notified by Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence on December 27, 2021,” it mentioned.
