CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The Hampton Roads neighborhood continues to mourn after Tuesday’s mass shooting at the Walmart in Chesapeake.

Thursday, a crowd gathered round a makeshift memorial outdoors of the Walmart on Sam’s Circle to recollect and pray for the victims. Loved ones advised News 3 that Fernando had simply began working at Walmart and used his first paycheck on presents for his mother. Trejo-Alvarado mentioned he did not know Fernando was one of many victims till Wednesday morning, making the information even more durable to digest.

“I known as him in class, risking my cellphone being taken,” said Trejo-Alvarado. “I texted him, and he did not reply. That’s once I texted his brother and requested him if Fernando was good, he was like no he did not make it.”

Balloons and flowers at the scene honor the son, student, and friend taken too soon.

“He would always be outgoing with anybody he met. He was nice,” Trejo-Alvarado.
