Police have arrested three males for smuggling cheaper liquor from Chandigarh and promoting it in Zirakpur at a better price whereas posing as members of the Bhupi Rana gang.

As many as 15 containers of the smuggled liquor and an unlicensed pistol have been recovered from the accused, recognized as Manjit Singh, his brother Mandeep Singh and Deepa, all residents of Chhat village, Zirakpur.

Investigating officer sub-inspector Kamal Taneja mentioned raids had been carried out on the home and cycle store of Manjit following info that he and his brother introduced liquor from Chandigarh for a low value and offered it in Zirakpur at a better price.

As many as 108 bottles had been present in Manjit’s store and 72 in his home. During interrogation, the trio revealed that they operated beneath the guise of Bhupi Rana gang members.

The officer mentioned Manjit was dealing with a number of prison instances already.

A contemporary case has been registered towards the three accused beneath sections 420 (dishonest), 506 (prison intimidation) and 120-B (prison conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, and numerous sections of the Excise Act and the Arms Act on the Zirakpur police station.
