Greenville County Schools launched a message to college students and their mother and father Wednesday: Before you imagine social media rumors, speak to highschool officers.

Superintendent Burke Royster addressed false rumors which were circulating in the neighborhood and on social media regionally and nationally at Tuesday night time’s Board of Trustees assembly.

His message was directed at what he referred to as false claims of scholars being allowed to behave out as cats or different animals whereas at college.

Royster defined the rumors and his recommendation to folks within the following assertion:

“I want to address the false rumors that have been circulating in the community and on social media claiming that our schools are putting in litter boxes for students who behave like cats or other animals and allowing students to respond to teachers by meowing, among other things.

“The issues which were described could be disruptive to highschool and due to this fact wouldn’t be allowed. These kinds of rumors have been documented as circulating throughout the nation for at the least 9 months and, to our information, have all been unfounded.

“Regardless of what’s or shouldn’t be occurring in different elements of the nation, I can guarantee mother and father and our group that if college students behave inappropriately, it is going to be addressed, and Greenville County Schools has not and won’t be implementing any of the issues described in these rumors or social media posts which are circulating.

“I never imagined that I would have to deliver this kind of message, but it is clear that some people are getting all of their information from social media and the internet and then drawing conclusions based on that information as opposed to going directly to the source.

“Before you imagine one thing like this, and extra importantly, earlier than you move that alongside, we’d ask that you just speak to the principal of your native college or attain out to the district’s ombudsmen. Thank you.”
