The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy on Saturday efficiently carried out a maiden flight trial of a sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile off the coast of Odisha within the Bay of Bengal. According to the assertion by the protection ministry, the aim of the trial was to interact and neutralize a hostile ballistic missile risk, thereby elevating India into the elite membership of countries having Naval Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) functionality.

Prior to this, DRDO has successfully demonstrated land-based BMD system with capability to neutralize ballistic missile threats, emerging from adversaries, the defense ministry said. (Representative image/ ANI)
