LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — A Long Island lady was arraigned Monday in a stunning crime that has a lot of Lake Ronkonkoma speaking.

The suspect tried to steal a automotive in a church parking zone then ran over the automotive’s aged proprietor, police informed CBS2’s Jennifer McLogan.

Historic St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, overlooking Lake Ronkonkoma, is understood for its preschool, thrift store and donation bins to assist the group. Now, they’re praying for a parishioner who was carjacked within the parking zone whereas dropping off garments.

“Getting run over is horrible. But when you’re doing it, trying to do something kind, it’s terrible,” parishioner Maureen Watts-Cassero mentioned.

The sufferer, a 73-year-old former nun, lives in St. James. Her pal described Lorraine Lombardo as a retired nurse with a form coronary heart. That gesture of kindness resulted in a violent crime.

Lombardo got here to church to donate, however left the motor operating when she exited her automotive. 

According to police, 50-year-old Doreen Dunbar jumped behind the wheel, tried to make a getaway, reversed, accelerated, knocked down the aged lady, partially operating over Lombardo’s legs, and fled.

Police mentioned they secured surveillance video.

“It’s terrible that somebody wants to donate clothes to the church and … But it’s a lesson: don’t leave the keys in the car with the motor running,” neighbor Eugene Rath mentioned.

“I come to the church. I come to buy stuff in the thrift store, it’s my favorite place. And now, believe me or not, I am a little scared,” Elida Clemente mentioned.

The priest known as 911 and Lombardo was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, the place she had surgical procedure and stays in secure situation.

Lombardo’s associates mentioned they’re grateful her accidents should not life-threatening.

“It’s a shame. I hope she recovers and she’s OK, and hopefully the woman who did this will get the help that she needs,” neighbor Kim Gray mentioned.

Dunbar was underneath psychiatric statement till her arraignment on theft and assault expenses. She’s being held on $200,000 partially secured bail.

Dunbar, described as homeless, was issued an order to steer clear of Lombardo.
