The NIA has arrested a militant, who was needed within the case regarding an ambush on the convoy of the Commandant of Assam Rifles.

Identifying the suspect as Machukring Zamshim Shimray, alias Ningkham, the NIA in an official assertion mentioned the case pertained to the assault on the convoy of forty sixth Batallion of Assam Rifles on November 13, 2021, by a gaggle of armed militants close to Sialsih village of Churachandpur district in Manipur.

Seven individuals, together with Commanding Officer Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his spouse and minor son, and 4 Assam Rifles personnel had been killed and 6 others had been injured within the assault. Initially, an FIR was lodged beneath the IPC, Arms Act, UAPA and Explosive Substances Act. Later, the NIA took over the probe.
