A parliamentary panel has determined to debate the implications of rupee’s depreciation on commerce, regardless of opposition from its BJP members, sources mentioned.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, chaired by senior Congress chief Abhishek Manu Singhvi, met for the primary time on Monday after reconstitution and deliberated on the topics that must be taken up for dialogue, they mentioned.

During the assembly, Singhvi proposed that the implications of the rupee’s depreciation on commerce be mentioned.

His proposal was strongly opposed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, a panel member, who mentioned the depreciation was short-term and the panel ought to talk about topics comparable to stability of commerce, which have long-term implications.

Dubey was supported by a number of different BJP MPs comparable to Raju Bista, Rajkumar Chahar and Deepak Prakash.

Almost all opposition MPs have been in favour of taking over the matter, saying it was an necessary topic which wanted huge discussions and research.
