LAKELAND, Fla. — Victoria J. Saunders completely loves “chonky,” “floofy,” and “grompy” cats.

In truth, the Plant City creator and digital artist adores colourful plus-sized kitties a lot, she wrote and illustrated a best-selling hardcover image e book about them.

Recently a #1 cat e book on Amazon, “The Chonky Alphabet” is her love letter(s) to fleshy felines, particularly her personal cat Mishka, who’s an authorized “unit.”

“U is for Unit,” stated Saunders, who goes by her married name, Vicky Smude, on Instagram. “To use that in a sentence: ‘That cat is an absolute unit.’ Meaning that’s just a big ol’ cat!”

Saunders stated that “Mishka’s vet described her as a potato. So I figured that was the threshold to get her into chonkydom.”

“Chonky” is a part of the key on-line language of plump-pet homeowners. That’s the place Saunders discovered solace and smiles a number of years in the past when she was furloughed from her job as a — look ahead to it — CAT scan tech in Lakeland.

“I loved going on [chonky cat sites],” she laughs. “I loved the community, and everyone was just so positive.”

So to raise her spirits, she began matching chonky phrases with chonky illustrations.

“Oh, when I found out, I definitely had the Zoomies myself,” she stated. “But Mishka just looked annoyed with me.”

Saunders will probably be signing “The Chonky Alphabet” on the Tipsy Bookworm in Plant City on August 6 from 2-4 p.m. The occasion is pet pleasant (after all).
