SUNNYSIDE, Queens (WABC) — An enormous fireplace broke out in a single day at a Queens bike store, and fireplace officers say e-bikes may have been guilty.
The Fly Wing Bike Shop in Sunnyside, now closely broken, was empty when flames shot out of the window simply after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
That fireplace destroyed as many as 60 e-bikes which at the moment are a pile of charred metallic outdoors of the store.
The fireplace chief says e-bikes possible performed a giant function on this fireplace and the bikes are inflicting some severe points in getting the fires throughout the town below management.
“E-bike fires are becoming more prevalent in the city,” stated FDNY Battalion Chief Justin Zorbo. “And they are difficult to extinguish. And require numerous hazmat resources.”
The fireplace chief says the fireplace began on the primary ground and prolonged to the second ground.
The retailer was closed when the fireplace began, which introduced an actual problem for firefighters as a result of variety of e-bikes.
“We had a large number of e-bikes, and gasoline bikes approximately 30 were in the rear and the same number inside the store,” Zorbo stated. “We used all hands-on assignment on arrival with an additional engine and additional truck, we had a three-line stretch to an operation.”
One firefighter suffered a minor harm. The fireplace nonetheless stays below investigation.
