The Punjab and Haryana excessive courtroom has fined the Chandigarh Police with 15,000 for “due lethargy” seen by the courtroom within the investigation of a minor’s rape.

While imposing the fee, excessive courtroom bench of justice Vinod S Bhardwaj noticed that the courtroom notices with anguish that regardless of the investigation having been transferred to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Chandigarh, in May 2013, even the essential steps had not been undertaken by the workplace of the SSP, Chandigarh, and it took 10 years for the SSP to ahead an extradition request of an absconding rape accused to the house secretary, Chandigarh.

“Even the stated motion has seemingly been taken since an affidavit had been referred to as for by the courtroom. The police seemingly had little interest in pursuing its case,” the bench recorded imposing a fine of 15,000 on the workplace of the SSP, Chandigarh.

The FIR in query was registered in August 2012 into the allegations of rape of a 10-year-old in Hoshiarpur. The accused fled overseas and was declared proclaimed offender. In 2013, the probe into FIR was transferred from Hoshiarpur police to Chandigarh police.

During the proceedings of this case in March, it had come earlier than the courtroom that the UT police didn’t even search extradition of the accused.

The SSP, Hoshiarpur, the place the FIR was registered had stated that the case was being probed by the UT police and it was the investigating company which was presupposed to provoke the extradition course of. On the opposite hand, the UT SSP had advised the courtroom that the extradition request has now been forwarded on April 26, 2023, to the UT house secretary.

Now, the courtroom has posted the matter for July 31, asking the UT police to apprise it of the standing of the extradition request.
