CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Clearwater Fire and Rescue division labored Wednesday to assist an injured juvenile dolphin underneath Pier 60.
Clearwater Fire and Rescue stated their lifeguards have been on the scene after they noticed an grownup dolphin circling round in shallow water. When lifeguards went to test, they discovered the younger dolphin tangled within the remnants of a crab lure.
“When the lifeguards paddled out and when he arrived in the area, he found with a smaller dolphin that was wrapped up in some rope that was wrapped up to a piling of the pier,” stated Patrick Brafford, a lifeguard supervisor with Clearwater Fire and Rescue.
Lifeguards labored to take away the rope of a crab lure after which known as the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Rescuers hoped the grownup dolphin, and presumably the mom dolphin, would come again to assist the juvenile dolphin, however that did not occur.
” We did everything we could to reunite this animal with its mother in the wild. Unfortunately, after multiple attempts to release this animal it was not making its way out on its own,” stated Emily Storrs, a veterinary technician at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s Rescue Team tried to launch the dolphin, however the animal then started swimming in direction of the shore and was struggling to swim within the open water. The Southeast Stranding Network and NOAA had the dolphin transported to SeaWorld for rehabilitation.
