Six employees have been crushed to demise underneath boulders following a landslide in a quarry at Phirangipuram in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. Another employee was significantly injured within the incident and was taken to the Government General Hospital in Guntur, an official stated.

The state authorities has introduced an ex-gratia fee of Rs 5 lakh every to the kin of the deceased, stated Guntur District Collector Kona Sasidhar. The accident occurred this afternoon when the employees have been attending to their common duties. A landslide precipitated the boulders to roll over the employees, killing six individuals and injuring one other, he stated.

Among the deceased, three employees belonged to Phirangipuram space, whereas the others hailed from Donabanda in Krishna district, the official stated. Sasidhar, who visited the scene of the mishap, stated a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and the mining division directed to confirm if the quarry had a sound licence.

“We have retrieved five bodies so far and we are bringing in additional equipment to remove the debris and retrieve the sixth body,” the Collector stated. He stated all quarrying exercise in Phirangipuram space was being quickly suspended and the mining division has been requested to confirm if the quarries had legitimate licenses. “We will take stern action if there are any violations,” the collector warned.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the accident.
