Physics, chemistry and maths will not be necessary topics for admission to undergraduate programs in structure, in line with the approval course of handbook for 2022-23 launched by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Tuesday.

The different two programs which is not going to mandatorily require PCM topics in school 12 are trend know-how and packaging know-how.

The technical training regulator had final 12 months introduced that college students who haven’t studied physics, chemistry or maths (PCM) in Class 12 will have the ability to search admission to engineering and know-how programmes, inflicting an enormous uproar.

“We had constituted an expert committee to make recommendations on admissions for which courses PCM can be made optional. On basis of the panel’s recommendations, three courses have been chosen,” a senior AICTE official stated.

Besides PCM, the topics that are eligible for admission within the three programs embody laptop science, electronics, info know-how, biology, informatics practices, biotechnology, technical vocational topic, agriculture, engineering graphics, enterprise research and entrepreneurship.

The AICTE has additionally determined that two supernumerary seats per course can be reserved for Covid-orphaned kids lined beneath the ‘PM CARES’ scheme in all affiliated polytechnic establishments from the upcoming educational session 2022-23.

“Such children who are issued ‘PM CARES certificate’ shall be eligible for admission in polytechnic institutions under the supernumerary quota,” the AICTE’s new approval course of booklet said.

“Two supernumerary seats shall be accorded by the AICTE in its approved institutions for empowering gifted and talented students to seek admissions against these seats, which will provide a motivating and unique opportunity for such students in line with NEP (National Education Policy) recommendations,” the handbook stated.

“The AICTE shall devise norms for selection of gifted and talented students under supernumerary quota and final admission shall be approved by the AICTE,” it added.
