The second match of the two-match Test series is being played between India and West Indies at Port of Spain, Trinidad. The match has reached the fourth day and two innings are yet to be completed. The Indian team’s innings ended on 438 before tee on the second day. But the slow batting of the West Indies batsmen and the rain on the third day have kept this match very slow so far. The first Test of the series between India and West Indies was held in Dominica which was over in three days and the Indian team won by an innings and 141 runs. The coach of Team India has raised questions about the second Test seeming to be heading towards a draw.
Team India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey termed the pitch being used for the second Test match as too slow for batting. Apart from this, he has criticized the West Indies batsmen for not even attempting to play the shot. The West Indies team is currently trailing 0-1 in the two-match series. He did not make any special efforts to score runs on the third day in reply to India’s 438 in the second Test. At the end of the third day’s play, the Caribbean team had scored 229 runs for five wickets and is 209 runs behind India. Only 67 overs were played on the third day and during this the hosts scored only 143 runs.
Coach raised questions on West Indies batting and pitch
Mhambrey told the press conference after the end of the third day’s play that the pitch was very slow and very easy to bat on. By the end of the day’s play, it had started taking a bit of turn. West Indies adopted a very defensive approach in batting. When the batsman tries to play the shot, there is also a chance to take the wicket but he did not make such an effort. Impressive performance from our bowlers. He took advantage of whatever opportunities he got. The pitch should be lively. There has to be a balance for batsmen and bowlers. The pitch in Dominica had turn but we made good use of the conditions. Although taking 20 wickets on this pitch will be difficult.
Coach happy with Mukesh Kumar’s bowling
Apart from this, the Indian bowling coach expressed satisfaction over the performance of fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, playing his first Test match. Bihar’s Lal Mukesh Kumar took his maiden International and Test wicket, dismissing West Indian debutant Kirk McKenzie. Regarding him, Paras Mhabre said that, I am very happy with the progress he showed after bowling the first ball in the first session. In the second session, he also got the ball to move a few times. It was a really good effort.
